New horse that is all leg cues?

I have been riding horses for 5 years and always have used clicks or smooches to get the horse to trot or lope. Now I got a new show horse that is ALL leg ques. She cant hear me when I click or smooch. I think (but not sure) that you press with your legs hard to trot and harder to lope right? I have never been on a horse that cant hear my commands. Help?
